Clyde and Sandra Strickland: 2010 Man and Women of the Year

Clyde and Sandra Strickland are assets to our community and the structure of Gwinnett County – and their generosity seems boundless. Their $1 million donation to Gwinnett Medical Center’s Open Heart Campaign dramatically shaped and paced that successful effort, and just this year, the Stricklands opened their hearts to Lawrenceville’s Hope Clinic with a $500,000 gift to help provide primary healthcare to the uninsured and underinsured.

Logical Choice Technologies’ Cynthia Kaye Shares Her Success Story

Cynthia Kaye works in the 48,000-square-foot Lawrenceville corporate headquarters of Logical Choice Technologies – a big change from the home basement where she founded her education technology company in 1994 with a folding card table and her preschooler playing on the floor around her.

“It was quite a journey from my basement to where we are today,” said Kaye. “But having a vision of what our company could become, and having employees that were focused and passionate on making the vision become a reality [were the biggest drivers of success]. The excitement was the opportunity to start a technology company that would make a difference in education.”

In Gary Martin Hays’ case, losing both a dear employee and his beloved older brother to cancer sparked his determination to try to make a difference.

The well-known personal injury lawyer’s life was jarred beyond making annual charitable donations when paralegal and friend Chez Chapman passed away in 2007 after an 11-year battle with cancer. Hays’ brother Chuck was six years into his own long battle with cancer, with his family seeking out new treatments and clinical trials that might help.
