2011 Man and Woman of the Year

Our elected and governmental leaders are always in the spotlight – but never more so now than in times of challenge and change. This year, with a focus on attracting new employers, improving county services and managing the challenges of a sluggish economy, two of our community leaders stand out: Norcross Mayor Bucky Johnson and Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners Chairman Charlotte Nash. These two leaders have put a strong emphasis on improving operations that make for a superior quality of life in our community. Gwinnett Magazine is proud to add the title of Man and Woman of the Year to these two charismatic individuals’ list of accomplishments.

Clyde and Sandra Strickland: 2010 Man and Women of the Year

Clyde and Sandra Strickland are assets to our community and the structure of Gwinnett County – and their generosity seems boundless. Their $1 million donation to Gwinnett Medical Center’s Open Heart Campaign dramatically shaped and paced that successful effort, and just this year, the Stricklands opened their hearts to Lawrenceville’s Hope Clinic with a $500,000 gift to help provide primary healthcare to the uninsured and underinsured.

But, while these remarkable gifts do make headlines, the Stricklands have in fact been devoted community volunteers for more than 41 years, since they moved to Gwinnett in 1969. Gwinnett Magazine is proud to honor Clyde and Sandra Strickland as its 2010 Man and Women of the Year for their enduring commitment to helping people in our community.
